The Canberrans among you might like to come along to some of these National Science Week 'fringe' events at the Front Café and Gallery at Lyneham shops (next to Tilleys).
As well as the timetabled events, there's live music every night (Wed-Mon) till late so it's a good 'after party' venue if you go to other science week events. Feel free to spread this information around to others.

Wed 20, 8pm: Inspired - art exhibition opening + DJ Chad Sexington
The 'Inspired' exhibition features art inspired by science, exploring nature, technology and irony through images of plant spores, 3D x-rays, cartoons, and fractal designs. Artists involved include Erica Seccombe, Julie Ryder, Jonathan McCabe, Mike McRae and Jessica Miller.
Opening night (Wednesday 20th August from 8pm) will include free drinks and nibbles and entertainment by DJ Chad Sexington. The exhibition is open 20-25 August.
Thu 21, 12.30pm & 6pm: You Decide (live science research) + James & Joe

Live music from 8pm, no bookings required.
Three scientists present their research plans and you vote on the winner! Have your say on what science you think should happen. This event is part of a real ANU research project; we prefer participants without science qualifications. You'll be provided with food and drink for your time.
Fri 22, 6pm: Science of Chocolate + The Rhythm Project
Science of Chocolate is booked out, but come along from 8pm for live music
Learn about the history and science of making delectable chocolate from a well-known Canberra chocolate-maker: Lindy from All Things Chocolate. Tasting is part of the experience!
Sat 23, 8pm: Science soapbox & cocktails + ShoehorN
Step up to the soapbox and have your say on a science issue. Everyone is welcome to take part and say their 2 minute rant. Prizes will be awarded. Sip on science-themed cocktails, and groove to local band ShoehorN.
Sun 24, 5pm & 7pm: Scinema short films (bookings recommended, to simren.gill at anu.edu.au)
An invitation to take a cinematic journey spanning the depths of the ocean to the surface of the moon.
Plus live music from Matthew Lendrum and Lindon Roberts from 4pm.
Mon 25, 6pm: Cartooning workshop + The Real Group - jazz combo
Bookings required for cartooning workshop - simren.gill at anu.edu.au
Live music from 7.30pm - no bookings required.
Discover why the human brain loves cartoons with Mike McRae, scientist and cartoonist extraordinaire, during a cartoon drawing workshop at The Front Cafe.
Entry to all events is free or by gold coin donation. All events are held at The Front Gallery and Cafe at the Lyneham shops.
