Outreach Operations Manager (Smart Moves and Maths Squad)

Executive Level 1

Outreach

(Position number 87200)


The Centre is seeking applications addressing the selection criteria
outlined below, for the above employment opportunities. Your application
should also include curriculum vitae. 

This position involves the managing of a team responsible for the
initiation, development and implementation of a number of Outreach
projects and sub-projects for regional and remote areas.  A proven
ability to inspire a sense of purpose and direction to achieve results
is essential.  The position will require substantial travel within
Australia to supervise staff and project.

The selection criteria for the position is as follows: 

1.       Proven highly developed team leadership and supervisory skills.
Supporting evidence such as successfully selecting, inducting and
training is essential. Evidence in leading teams in regional and remote
area science education programmes will be an advantage. 

2.       Experience in managing a diverse range of operational projects
requiring a high level of logistical organisation. Experience in
budgeting, reporting and evaluation will be an advantage. Personal drive
and integrity in the management of projects is essential.

3.       Proven capacity to work individually, and as a member of team,
under pressure and within tight timeframes. 

4.       Well developed liaison and negotiation skills.  Experience in
the application of these skills to the management of external
stakeholders and non-APS contractors will be an advantage. Experience in
cultivating and maintaining productive working relationships and in
communicating with influence is essential.

5.       Tertiary qualifications, or equivalent professional experience,
in science communication or education. Knowledge or experience in the
development and delivery of science and technology or education
programmes. 

6.       An understanding of the Australian Public Service Values,
Workplace Diversity, Industrial Democracy and Occupational Health &
Safety. Proven experience in applying these to teams is essential. It
would be an advantage to have experience in applying these to
supervision of staff travelling throughout regional and rural Australia.



Special Requirements:

The special requirements of this position will involve:


*      Maintenance and wearing of the uniform and safety equipment
provided in the manner specified.

*      Possession of a current driver's license, and the ability to
drive a motor vehicle.

*      Successfully completing a working with Children check.

*      Willing to take on Duty of care responsibility of a number of
students.

This position is a full time non-ongoing position until 04th of December
2009, Monday to Friday 37.5 hrs/week, in accordance with the Questacon
