SkyMapper - a New Window on the Southern Skies

to be presented by 

Dr. Stefan Keller 

Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA), Australian
National University


SkyMapper is a optical rapid survey telescope under construction by the
Australian National University. The facility features a 268 million
pixel camera giving it a field of view of 40 times the size of the full
moon. In this talk I will discuss the development of the facility, its
science goals and its bounty of data that will be made publicly


Dr. Stefan Keller is a Research Fellow at the Research School of
Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA), Australian National University.
Stefan is the Project Scientist of Software in the SkyMapper project. He
joined RSAA in 2003 after 3 years at the Lawrence Livermore National
Laboratory where he was a member of the MACHO group looking for the
signature of dark matter.
