[ASC-list] Vic: SWk events in Bendigo

The Discovery Science and Technology Centre in Bendigo, VIC are hosting a plethora of events over National Science Week, kicking off this weekend with the following celestial-themed excitement:

Reach for the Stars: Dark Sky Night (with the Bendigo District Astronomical Society)
When: Friday 14 August, 6.30pm - 8.30pm
Where: Quarry Hill Golf Course (enter via Houston St), Bendigo
Cost: FREE
What: Viewing of the stars, constellations, globular clusters, and Jupiter and its moons - with telescopes and local astronomy experts on hand.

Reach for the Stars special guest speaker: Trevor Barry
When: Saturday 15 August, 4.30pm (following the announcement of the Discovery Photography Competition winners)
Where: Discovery, Bendigo
Cost: FREE
What: Trevor will tell his story - how it is never too late to become involved in astronomy for anyone, regardless of age or background. After 34 yrs in the mining industry in Broken Hill he went on to complete a post graduate degree in astronomy. He has worked on imaging storms on Saturn, which led to official recognition by NASA of his contribution to the Cassini mission. He has continued doing work with Saturn for the Austrian Academy of Sciences and recently went on a trip to Hawaii as part of a professional research team to observe with the largest optical telescopes on Earth, the twin 10-metre Keck telescopes at 14,000 ft on the summit of Mauna Kea a dormant volcano.
