Science Week celebrations at the Discovery Science and Technology Centre in Bendigo, VIC continue with:
Reach for the Stars: Science and Technology Careers Day
When: Wednesday 19 August, 10am-4pm
Where: Discovery, Bendigo 
Cost: FREE
What: Curious to see where science and technology can take you? Or just trying to decide which career path to follow in the science and technology field? Come along and hear from La Trobe's top academics as they supply you with all of the information you need to make educated decisions about the best study pathways to help fulfill your career objectives.
The day will run from 10am-6pm and will consist of the following activities:
A career exhibition area where students will be able to collect information about different science and technology career paths and get practical advice on what steps they should take towards achieving their career objectives (the exhibition will run from 10am-4pm). 

Seven 30-minute presentations in the Discovery Auditorium on different career stream topics. Your students will be able to hear from some of the top professors and senior lecturers at La Trobe University. We will be covering: Nanotechnology, Environmental science, Engineering, Pharmacy, Mathematics, General Science and, of course, Information Technology. The presentations will start at 10.15am and there will be 15 minute intervals between the sessions. 

Seven 30-minute speed-networking sessions following each of the presentations which will allow interested students to ask more questions about the career stream topics they are interested in. The sessions will start at 11am with 15 minute intervals between them. 

At 4:30pm to finish off the day, we have planned a fantastic debate with the topic: "Mathematics is the cornerstone of society". (See below) 
Science Week Debate: Mathematics is the Cornerstone of Society 

When: Wednesday 19 August, 4.30pm
Where: Discovery, Bendigo 
Cost: FREE
What: The debate will be moderated by Science Communicating-guru Chris Krishna-Pillay, and the debate teams will be made up of La Trobe academics, La Trobe students and local school students. This debate promises to be a fun and feisty, and will be followed by an early evening cocktail event where non-alcoholic drinks and snacks will be served.
