Star Wars: Real Science and Science Fiction
Allan Kreuiter MSc ( Sci Comm) , Science Educator
Science fiction has been implicated both directly and indirectly in a
wide range of scientific advances. From water beds and living grass
carpets to robots and satellites, many of these ideas originated in
Science Fiction. Many other ideas have become accepted as commonplace
after making an appearance in Science Fiction films and stories and even
led scientists to choose a life of science as a result. This talk will
look at various fictional universes of Science, including Star Wars, and
discuss their real life versions and futuristic inventions.
Part of the Powerhouse Museum 2009 Adult Learning Program.
