The central question this symposium will explore is: given that climate
change is occurring, how can science communicators work with governments,
industry, business and communities to help generate solutions to the
problems it raises? Solutions will focus on reducing greenhouse gas
emissions as well as adapting to climate change.

This is one of three symposia being organised by the Australian Science
Communicators on communicating the science of climate change. The symposium
includes panel discussions and key note speakers in the morning and
facilitated small group discussions in the afternoon, which seek to answer
questions like:

. How do politics and economics affect communicating about climate
change science?

. Is there a balance between ecological needs and economic needs when
dealing with a changing climate?

. How do you communicate the link between ecology and the economy?

. Can science inform the economy and visa versa?

. Can a carbon emissions trading scheme be based on good science?

. How can good science be brought into policy discussions about
climate change?

. How can we communicate climate change science with politicians and
industry and business leaders? And involve people in that discussion?
