"Harmonious Revolutions: Galileo and the music of the spheres" is a
unique early-music multimedia event created for the 2009
International Year of Astronomy.

Date and time: Friday 5 June, 5:30 pm for a 6 pm start, show ending
around 7:30 pm
Place: State Library of NSW (Mitchell library), Macquarie St, Sydney

Galileo Galilei was a scientific revolutionary. But did you know his
father, Vincenzo, was a revolutionary too - in music? His work led to
the creation of opera and the development of the "new style" of the
time: baroque.

"Harmonious Revolutions" is a tribute to the two Galileis, told
through music of the time, readings from their works (in English),
poetry and space imagery.

At the performance, the State Library will display some of the
treasures of its collection, including a rare copy of the first
edition of Galileo's "Dialogue concerning the two main world systems"
- the book that caused him to fall foul of the Inquisition.

Cost: $35 full / $20 concession (Friends of the Library, seniors, and
Conservatorium of Music students)
Bookings essential: tel. 02 9273 1770 or email bookings at sl.nsw.gov.au
