featuring JEFF LINDSAY - writer of the Dexter series of books

1.30 pm, Sun 13th September, The Breezeway Stage, Maiwar Green

Good vs. Evil? Science vs. Fiction? Humans are capable of great evil and
great kindness. Do scientists think we can really learn from psychopaths
about our capacity for empathy, for good and for evil? Jeff Lindsay, author
of the Dexter series which inspired the cult hit TV series of the same name,
about an 'ethical' serial killer, is joined by Queensland scientists
specialising in psychology and criminology.

GUEST SPEAKERS:

DR DOMINIQUE HANNAH, consultant psychiatrist in private practice and with a
Brisbane Mental Health facility.

PROFESSOR PAUL WILSON, forensic psychologist and Chair of Criminology at
Bond University, Qld.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR WILLIAM GREY, Reader in Philosophy, School of History,
Philosophy, Religion & Classics, University of Queensland.

JEFF LINDSAY, Jeff Lindsay is the pen name of American playwright and crime
novelist Jeffry P. Freundlich, best known for his novels about sociopathic
vigilante Dexter Morgan. The Dexter novels have now been adapted into an
award-winning TV series. Lindsay's plays have been performed on the stage in
New York and London.

Host: Bernie Hobbs (New Inventors)

Science journalist, Bernie Hobbs, is a former teacher and medical researcher
(trained in Queensland) but she's been talking, writing and having a beer or
two over science at the ABC since 1997. Bernie appears on weekly radio
shows, has produced award-winning websites, and is in the kids' science
show, The Experimentals. She is known to Australian audience as a judge on
the New Inventors

Cafe Scientific invites scientists to leave the lab and get out to cafes and
