Consumer demand for electricity is highly variable and power generation must constantly be balanced with demand. Demand side management (DSM) aims to improve the efficiency of energy consumption by reducing demand and using supplementary energy sources at peak times.

Emerging systems can store excess energy produced during low demand periods and return it to the grid during peak periods. Also, Smartgrids, which can monitor and control domestic usage instantly, are just around the corner.
Will these systems really be able to improve the efficiency of the grid? Will they play a significant role in reducing our power consumption?

Join Professor Barry Brook and his expert panel as they explain the role of these technologies will play in power grids of the future.

This event is the fifth of six public forums aimed at providing a comprehensive examination of sustainable energy technologies and critical evaluation of their potential for reducing carbon emissions.
