Simon Cherriman is a biologist and wildlife filmmaker who grew up in the Perth Hills at Parkerville, and has been interested in birds from a very young age. He has a passion for Wedge-tailed Eagles which began after finding a nest at 15, and he continues to find and map nests, and study, photograph and film eagles until the present day. Simon completed a Degree in Environmental Biology at Curtin University in 2007, conducting his Honours research on the diet of the Wedge-tailed Eagle in the Perth region. He recently completed his Masters in Natural History Filmmaking based at Otago University in New Zealand, and co-produced the film ‘A Wedged Tale’ which contributed to him winning the Australian Geographic Young Conservationist of the Year in 2010. The film premiered in Australia in March 2011. Simon juggles runing a small business, iNSiGHT Ornithology, which specialises in bird research, photography, and education, while working as an environmental consultant.

This Friday Simon will talk about using filmmaking as a means to communicate science, and give you all a sneak preview of the film ‘A Wedged Tale’.
