Dear ASCers,
I've just returned from Canada, where I was privileged to chair a wonderful
and exciting initiative – Equinox Summit: Energy 2030, an international
science/tech/policy meeting that sought to reboot the discussion on the
future energy.
I'm delighted to report that it's been a great success, and that many
Australians took part, including former chief scientist Robin Batterham,
CSIRO physicist and FASTS head Cathy Foley, Barry Brook from the University
of Adelaide and Maria Skyllas-Kazacos from the University of NSW.
You can find the highlights of the deliberations here in the communiqué (PDF
here http://is.gd/VvKVER) or video of the closing public session here -
http://is.gd/56JFjz. The reaction has been quite possitive (see *Nature*
http://is.gd/eIiSMz).
You can find out more about the Equinox Summit here - http://wgsi.org/
There are three short videos that set that set the stage, and are available
for anyone to use:

- *The Generation of Electricity *- http://is.gd/Fjnj02
- *The Distribution of Electricity* - http://is.gd/YVVyS6
- *The Storage of Electricity* - http://is.gd/CAzDm0
And, for those who are really keen to see how it all played out, you can
watch video of the daily plenary sessions, which were live streamed and were
recorded for broadcast in Canada.
