Science Communication Coordinator
 

QIMR is one of Australia's largest and most successful medical research
institutes. We investigate the genetic and environmental causes of more
than 40 diseases, and are developing new diagnostics, better treatments
and prevention strategies to promote health and well being for all
people. 

The position report directly to the Science Communication Manager and is
a senior role within the Science Communication Unit which is part of the
External Relations Department. The Science Communication Unit aims to
build and protects QIMR's reputation as a world class medical research
organisation. 

As Science Communication Coordinator you will work closely with other
members of the External Relations Department and QIMR's scientific staff
to scope stories and maximise media coverage for the Institute. You will
produce a range of communication collateral that highlights QIMR world
class research. This may include, but is not limited to newsletters,
fact sheets, web content, displays and copy for annual report. You will
have a passion for medical research and the impact it has on the health
of all. You will enjoy working in a fast pace environment, working on a
range of projects and building relationships with our scientists. 

To be successful in this role you will possess a communications
qualification or equivalent experience coupled with proven professional
written and oral communication skills, including ability to write
engaging and accurate media releases and articles. A proven record of
scoping media stories, preferably in a scientific environment and
knowledge of local and national media, and a developed network of
contacts within the media with proven ability to maximise media coverage
is highly desirable. 

Salary range is $69,513 - $75,666 per annum. This is a permanent
full-time appointment
