Dr Hayden Marcollo
Principal Engineer, Australian Marine and Offshore Group (AMOG)
“Frontier Deep Water Development and the Role Fundamental Science Plays in the Engineering”
The deep ocean contains a vast amount of untapped resources. Sustainable and reliable tapping into some of these resources requires solving technical engineering challenges. From oil and gas reservoirs to sub-sea mining, there are similar practical challenges to be solved.
This talk will cover some of the frontier deep water developments around the world, including offshore USA, Brazil and PNG. It will discuss the ways in which the engineering challenges are being tackled and the role that fundamental science plays in the engineering.
Dr Hayden Marcollo is a Principal Engineer at AMOG Consulting and manager of research and development. Hayden has a PhD in offshore engineering, and held a postdoctoral research position at M.I.T which included both physical and numerical modelling of underwater engineering systems. Hayden’s more recent experience includes design of floating systems including mooring and naval architecture aspects as well as ocean renewable energy projects.
GTAC is in the grounds of University High School, corner Royal Parade and Story Street, Parkville (enter off Story Street or Royal Parade)
We are pleased to acknowledge the support by GTAC, CSL and the Faculty of Science, University of Melbourne for the ANZAAS Melbourne science talks series
