CSIRO’s Information Sciences Group has an 
exciting opportunity for a communication student with an interest in science and 
technology to coordinate the communication/media campaign about CSIRO’s 
2011/2012 Vacation Student Program.
As part of the Information Sciences Group 
communication team you will work under the supervision of a skilled CSIRO 
Communicator who will help guide you as you develop your own integrated media 
communication campaign from start to finish which will involve writing a 
communication plan, sourcing stories and talented spokespeople, assisting with 
training selected spokespeople, writing a media release, pitching the stories to 
the journalists and evaluating news coverage. You will utilise CSIRO’s social 
media channels to support your campaign and engage with your fellow Vacation 
Students in the Information Sciences Group.

As part of your development, you will receive 
presentation skills training as well as an opportunity to participate in an end 
of scholarship conference with other students and CSIRO research 
scientists.

Location: Macquarie 
University, Sydney
Salary: $685 per 
week
Tenure: Scholarships 
commence on 28 November 2011 and continue for a period of 10 weeks.

The CSIRO Vacation scholarships are open to 
students who have completed (by November) at least two years of tertiary study 
and who have maintained a credit average or higher. To be successful 
you:

Must be working toward a tertiary 
qualification in communication or science communication or a related area 

Be enthusiastic, creative, and demonstrate 
strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, initiative and a 
good knowledge of scientific concepts 
Be proficient in Microsoft Office and 
Outlook

Writing Samples: These may 
include science news articles, examples of Facebook or Twitter posts 
relating to Science or any material 
written from your studies  in a style for publication that demonstrates your written ability and ability to convey science 
concepts to a general audience. Please do not submit whole university assignments.
