Earth Science Week<http://www-approval.ga.gov.au/education/public-events/earth-science-week.html> celebrations are taking place across Australia during 9-15 October, aligning with the international theme of Our ever-changing Earth.

Geoscience Australia will celebrate Earth Science Week<http://www.ga.gov.au/education/public-events/earth-science-week/2011.html> with a range of activities including the Geologi<http://www-approval.ga.gov.au/education/public-events/geologi-short-film-competition.html> student short film competition and the Top GeoShot<http://www-approval.ga.gov.au/education/public-events/top-geoshot-2011.html> photographic competition, with the winners to be announced during Earth Science Week.

A new display featuring Antarctic Geoscience will also be unveiled in the Geoscience Australia foyer to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Mawson's expedition<http://centenary.antarctica.gov.au/> to Antarctica. To mark the launch of the exhibition, renowned Mawson historian Alisdair McGregor<http://www.alasdairmcgregor.com.au/page9.php> will present a free public seminar "Douglas Mawson and the Australian Antarctic Expedition 1911-14", at 11am on Wednesday 12 October in the Sir Harold Raggatt Theatre at Geoscience Australia's headquarters<http://www.ga.gov.au/image_cache/GA11519.gif> in Canberra.

As part of the celebrations, Geoscience Australia scientist Sam Griffiths will be delivering a videoconference seminar to primary students in Queensland on the geodesy work he has undertaken in Antarctica. Geodesy is the science of measuring and monitoring the dimensions and shape of the Earth. Public are welcome to attend the seminar at 10am on Wednesday 12 October in the Japan Theatre at Questacon<http://www.questacon.edu.au/> .
