Happy ALMOST National Science Week everyone!

I know many of you will be really busy delivering programs over the next
week.... but I wanted to remind you that the Ultimo Science Festival is

Some highlights happening during the Festival at the Powerhouse Museum

*BIG NIGHT OF SCIENCE*
See the Enigma machine! Hear a fascinating talk by special guest speaker
Professor Jack Copeland, world authority and prolific author on the work of
code-breaking genius Alan Turing, whose centenary we’re celebrating this
year. Host, Dr Paul Willis (from ABC’s Catalyst, now Director of RiAus),
will lead us through the talks and discussion, plus there’s live jazz
,drinks and canapes.

*THE FAME ALGORITHM with MATHS COMEDIAN*

Mathematician, takes the guesswork out of modern fame with his own formula
for success, THE FAME ALGORITHM. Pampena demonstrates through careful

*THE EINSTEIN LECTURE 2012: IT’S A SMALL, SMALL WORLD*
Experimental physicist, Dr Michael J. Biercuk, from the Centre for
Engineered Quantum Systems at the University of Sydney, will break down the
laws of physics and talk about nanoscale. Refreshments served. For ages 14
and over.

*THE BEAST WITHIN: DISSECTING THE ETHICS OF ANIMAL EXPERIMENTATION*
What role do animals have in scientific and medical research? Share your
view with Natasha Mitchell, host of ABC Radio National’s Life Matters and
guests during this debate. For ages 14 and over.
When: Wednesday 22 August, 6pm for 6.30pm start

*SCIENCE SNAPS*
Meet scientists in authentic 2D! Take your photo with Alan Turing, Albert

objects from the Museums collection not usually on display.
