Vacation Scholarship Program - CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science

CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science offers undergraduate students a great opportunity to carry out a research project, under supervision of a scientist or engineer, at one of the world's leading radio-astronomy organisations, over a period of 12 weeks. Projects are offered in astrophysics, engineering and operations.

Most positions are located in the Sydney suburb of Marsfield. Students based there will undertake a fieldwork trip to one of CSIRO's observatories in NSW, either Parkes (home to the 64-m Parkes radio telescope) or Narrabri (location of the Australia Telescope Compact Array). Some positions are located at Parkes and Narrabri.

Participation in the Vacation Scholarship Program has influenced previous scholarship holders in their choice of further study and future career options. Many have gone on to pursue a PhD in CSIRO or to build a successful research career within CSIRO, a university or industry.

Who can apply: Students who have completed (by November) at least three years of undergraduate study in science, engineering, maths (or other relevant fields) and who have maintained a credit average or higher.

When program runs: Scholarships start on 26 November 2012 and continue for 12 weeks.

Where: Positions are located in Sydney (the majority), Parkes or Narrabri, all in NSW.

Scholarship: $1413.32 per fortnight
