[ASC-list] Scientific research to be free on-line - but what about sci comm research?

Hi

There's an interesting debate on free on-line access to research on  
the PCST discussion list.

Susanna Priest, editor of Science communication, has just posted a  
comment which reads (in part):

For the most part, in my own view, all that most "open access" plans  
do is to shift the burden of paying from readers to authors. Not only  
is it discriminatory against researchers in less-developed ("poorer")  
areas, but it is potentially a very bad choice for social science  
generally, and even worse for communication research specifically.
