This month Adam Jaffe will talk about the Clinical treatment and experience of Cystic Fibrosis, and his research into possible Gene Therapies for this debilitating disease.
Monday 21st May - Understanding Cystic Fibrosis
Professor Adam Jaffe
Cystic Fibrosis is the most common life threatening, recessive genetic condition affecting Australian children . The genetic defect results in thick mucous across a number of body organs. In the lungs this mucous ultimately causes lung destruction and death. Current research is looking at various new medications which may help improve the removal of sputum from the airway. This includes the early treatment of cystic fibrosis related diabetes with insulin.
Professor Adam Jaffe is John Beveridge Professor of Paediatrics and Head of Discipline of Paediatrics at School of Women's and Children's Health. He is also a Consultant in respiratory medicine and Head of Respiratory Department at Sydney Children's Hospital. His research interests are in the use of gene therapies for the treatment of Cystic Fibrosis.

Professor Jaffe's other research interests can be found here<http://bit.ly/JkUPmx>.
