ROLE PROFILE - Education and Events Officer (Ref: 11710)
Role Description: Geoscience Australia is seeking a professional Education and Events Officer to support our geoscience education and awareness public programs. The successful candidate will work closely with internal and external clients to coordinate and deliver high profile education activities and special events to raise awareness of geoscience and promote the work of Geoscience Australia. The role is very much a hands-on for delivery of education sessions. It also requires highly developed skills in client liaison, coordination and written and verbal communication.
Note: A merit list will be created from the recruitment process to fill similar positions during the next 12 months.
Role Duties: The successful candidate will be part of a team that delivers a range of education functions including: face-to-face school visits to the Education Centre; teacher professional development sessions; developing general geoscience awareness information; education kits and curriculum linked resources; assist with updating and refreshing Geoscience Australia's education and events web pages. The successful candidate will also assist with the delivery of Geoscience Australia's iconic special events program including Open Day, National Science Week and Earth Science Week activities.
Special Requirements:
Essential: Tertiary qualifications in science communication and / or education, geography or science (particularly geology or Earth science). Previous event management experience in education centre or museum environments is an advantage.
Desirable: primary or secondary teaching experience.
Key Relationships: Our public programs are dependent on the strong support of Geoscience Australia's staff, including scientists and product development staff such as graphic designers. Key external relationships include the Australian public, Australian school teachers and students, and national and international science, geoscience and education agencies
