For those of you interested in Pacific issues.

The Secretariat of the Pacific Community is organising an event at the National Press Club in Canberra on 25 September this year..

Dr Jimmie Rodgers, SPC DG, is the main speaker; but as well as the normal formal luncheon address, there will be a 2 hour seminar.  

The broad themes will be how various issues are being tackled in the Pacific: food security, popuation, economic development - and of course climate change hangs over all these issues.

SPC has asked me to construct a guest list to invite, to both the luncheon and the seminar.  This will include representatives of Pacific Islands, of donor agencies, government departments, researchers  and others interested in the event.

I've talked to CSIRO, ACIAR, AusAID, DFAT and other agencies, but will have missed some of you with strong interests in the Pacific.  If your organisation is interested, please send me names of suitable people to add to the guest list for the event.  It would be good to have these in a small table: honorific/first name/surname/organisation/position/phone
