‘Making Science Beautiful’ - Call for Participation
Does your work bridge science and art? Perhaps you’re an artist inspired by science or perhaps you’re a creative scientist? If so, you have an opportunity to share your work with other like-minded people at ‘Making Science Beautiful’, an event co-organized by Vivid Ideas and the VizbiPlus initiative:. The event takes place at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney on Thursday 29 May; it runs from 6:30-8:00 pm, followed by a mixer.
HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE:
You can take part in the VizbiPlus Challenge. Let science fire your imagination: create artwork inspired by the VizbiPlus animations, submit prior to the deadline (18 May 2014), and you could win a Wacom Cintiq 13HD! Details here.
At the beginning of the mixer event (around 8:15 pm), there will be an opportunity for a limited number of participants to briefly introduce themselves and their work to the audience (in 30 seconds, and using one projected image), and then present a poster or interactive demonstration. If you wish to take advantage of this opportunity, you need to first register for the event, then upload an image you propose to show (PNG format) plus a one-paragraph description of the work you would present to http://vizbi.org/plus/upload. Submissions close 5pm AEST on 15 May 2014. Places are limited - successful participants will be notified by email on 17 May.
We are excited to be able to offer a limited number of fellowships for people who need financial help either for purchasing tickets or to get themselves to the event. We encourage applications Australia-wide. If you are applying for financial help, in addition to your image and description of your work, you are also required to submit one paragraph explanation of why you need funding and how you plan to “spread the science” from this event back to your community.
‘VizbiPlus: Visualising the Future of Biomedicine’ is a project funded by the Inspiring Australia initiative, the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, the Walter & Eliza Hall Institute, and CSIRO.
