Invitation to participate: Armature art and science workshop
Saturday 3 May
10am-4pm, The Science Exchange, Adelaide

RiAus, Australia's national science communication organisation, is partnering with Access2Arts, a disability-led organisation that works across all art forms to increase access and support the professional development of artists with disability, to provide this unique opportunity to participate in an art/science symposium as part of the Armature program.

Armature is an active arts project that deliberately blurs the boundary between participatory arts practice and arts learning.

This invitation is for young scientists to participate in a day long workshop with other young scientists, and artists with a disability participating in the armature program. The aim of the workshop is to explore the ways in which artists and scientists search to describe and tell stories about the world around them.

What will the workshop cover?
The workshop will cover three themes:
Thinking about art and science - what can we learn about the ways in which artists and scientists approach observing, recording and making sense of the world around them? What role does disability play in this?
Doing art and doing science - a hands on demonstration from artist Amy Pfitzner who incorporates microbiological techniques into her art practise.
Writing about art and science - how does writing about a process change the way you think about it?

Why should I participate?
This workshop will appeal to scientists interested in the philosophy and social implications of scientific research beyond the research lab bench, or have a personal interest in art, writing or disability advocacy.

How can I register?
The workshop is free to all invited participants (refreshments are included) but places are strictly limited. Please email Lisa Bailey lbailey at riaus.org.au with your name, field of study, and one sentence outlining why you would like to participate in this workshop by Thursday 1 May.

Best wishes
