The Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA) seeks to appoint a Senior Education
Officer Community. This role is responsible for managing the development,
delivery and evaluation of the SCA's community capacity building and
networking programs including community and school education to meet the
SCA's strategic organisational direction and state government education
responsibilities. The role works with the SCA's catchment partners who
include landholders, local government, industry and other government
agencies.
 
In this role you will manage the research, initiation, development,
coordination and reporting of catchment community capacity building and
networking actions and projects and support the visitor education and
information program. You will ensure the application of best practice
community education principles, and that new and existing catchment
education program projects, delivered via both internal and external
partnerships, focus on influencing positive water quality, quantity and
catchment management behaviours.
 
To be successful in this role, you will have highly specialised knowledge of
best practice water education and water catchment education initiatives. You
will also have demonstrated experience in leading the development, delivery
and evaluation of multi-faceted catchment education and partnership
programs, including school and community based programs. You will use your
dynamic leadership skills to identify new catchment education program
directions and projects to address newly identified and existing priorities.
You will apply your excellent negotiation and relationship skills to secure
the commitment of other organisations to existing and new education
partnerships. You will also need to apply your change management and
influencing skills to facilitate the development of new internal
partnerships to integrate education with other behaviour change tools such
as enforcement, incentives and on ground works.

Selection Criteria
 
The following selection criteria form a specific part of the selection
process. Candidates for this role must address each of these items
specifically in their application.

Appropriate tertiary qualifications in education, environmental
science/management, social sciences or appropriate or equivalent extensive
experience.
 
Highly specialised knowledge of best practice water education and water
catchment education initiatives and of other relevant and related catchment
management initiatives, such as policy and grants programs.
 
Demonstrated experience in leading the development, delivery and evaluation
of multi-faceted catchment education and partnership programs, including
school and community based programs.
 
Demonstrated ability to effectively liaise and negotiate with external
stakeholders and represent the SCA, and an ability to influence.
 
An understanding of the working of government and non-government agencies
involved in environmental education and catchment management initiatives,
including local councils, schools and environmentally focused groups.
 
High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability
to work with people at all levels of the SCA and key external organisations.
 
Proven ability to lead and work as part of a team.
 
Proven project and contract management skills, including an ability to work
within time and budgetary requirements.
