Happy almost science week everyone!

This weekend there are lots of wonderful science events taking place around
the country….. Some highlights of events happening at the Museum of Applied
Arts and Sciences (MAAS) this weekend include:

BEHIND-THE-SCENES TOURS
Life and Death in the Powerhouse Collection
Sunday 17th August 12.00pm or 2.00pm (Duration: 60 minutes)
Powerhouse Discovery Centre, Castle Hill
>From the macabre to the magnificent, this tour focuses on a selection of
objects from the Powerhouse Museum's collection. Join Sandra McEwen,
Principal Curator, Biosciences and Built Environment as she shares her
personal insights into technologies that have addressed life and death
issues in the past. Highlights of the tour include a 1930s Fowler porcelain
mortuary table used by Sydney's St Joseph's Hospital in Auburn; a
coffin-handling machine used at the Eastern Suburbs Crematorium and a
cardboard coffin that could be everyone's final environmental choice. Our
collection of x-ray, dental and surgical equipment will have you overjoyed
to be living in the 21st century. The Australian 'iron lung' respirator
that kept polio victims alive during the last century will simply take your
breath away...and a selection of old toilets will leave you relieved that
the dual flush exists today! Come and join us for a walk through the deep
stores...if you dare! Numbers are limited to 20 per tour.

TICKETS: $16 adult / $10 concession, Powerhouse Members (includes general
admission). Limited to visitors aged 12+ years. Book online for
behind-the-scenes tours at castlehill.powerhousemuseum.com/open-weekend/ or
