Well, fret no longer. The Ultimo Science Festival starts next week!

This year’s Festival is jam-packed with events and activities for science
enthusiasts of all ages and tastes: from toddler science sessions right up
to the adult only evening events.

Fri 5 Sept: The Science of Sex

Dr. Karl, evolutionary biologist Professor Rob Brooks and marine biologist
Professor Emma Johnston present a smorgasbord of sex and reproduction
science hosted by Natasha Mitchell from ABC’s Life Matters. In the break,
the Mystery Investigators will bust some myths and pseudo-science, the bar
will be open, a food truck ready to satisfy your tastebuds and there will
be live jazz. Chat to Museum Curators about some amazing ‘sex objects’ from
the Museum’s collection. Come down early and join the fun

Science galore for the whole family. The Powerhouse Museum will buzz with
science action for children of all ages with the Surfing Scientist,
hands-on workshops, science shows and amazing demonstrations, plus the
Mystery Investigators, Open Day at the Mars Lab and a chat with real
scientists in Speed Meet A Geek. Take dad to the Powerhouse Museum for a
real science treat on Fathers Day.


Sept 11: Talks: Biotechnology, the brain and gunshot residue

Join us for an evening of collaboration and idea sharing for scientists and
artists. Hosted by the ABC’s Fenella Kernebone, this evening will showcase
performances and discussions featuring scientists, artists and performers
whose creativity and imagination seeks to bridge the gap between

Stand-up Science returns by popular demand with  Dr Justine Rogers (Nerd
Nite, TEDx Sydney and Sydney Comedy Festival) and Maths-Comedian Simon
Pampena (back from the Edinburgh Festival the Middle East) and Jazz Twemlow
(ABC2's "The Roast": comedian, writer, Political Curmudgeon).

Exhibit Two: Visualising Real Science Research <https://mail.google.com/>
See exhibitions of thought-provoking artworks inspired by scientific
research in LIVING DATA: Evolving Conversations and Visualising Real
Science Research. Be surprised, inspired and moved by visualisations that
have evolved from collaborations between scientists and artists. The
artworks are in many formats and media including animations, dance, living
labs, interactive installations, music, painting, graphic work and
sculpture.

Ultimo Science Festival is presented by the Powerhouse Museum, Australian
Broadcasting Centre, Ultimo TAFE, University of Technology, Sydney.
Supported by the Australian Government through the Inspiring Australia
program, the City of Sydney and the Office of the Chief Scientist &
Engineer of NSW.
