[ASC-list] Melbourne event: the ART of science communication

Hi Melbourne ASCers,

The Victorian Branch is excited to present

*The art of science communication: from cartoons to photography*

Join artists and science communicators in a discussion about the
kaleidoscope of different visual techniques that can be used to communicate

The art of visual communication cannot be underestimated in its ability to
cut through nuances of language and get to the heart of the ideas being

Photography, animation, illustration, art, video and film allow us to see
things that can only be imagined; to combine ideas that at face value seem
unrelated; and to communicate what might normally take pages in a single
image or seconds of footage.

*Date*:  Tuesday 15 July 2014

*Venue:  *Seminar rooms 1 and 2, Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI), 1G
Royal Parade, Parkville

*Time*:  5:45–7:30, followed by dinner at Naughtons Hotel (43 Royal Parade,

*Cost*:  Free (but strictly limited numbers so please book using Eventbrite

Attendees will get the chance to listen to experts talk about their craft
and take part in a panel discussion. Short pre-recorded interviews with
international visual artists will also be played and a selection of artwork
from WEHIs ‘Art of Science’ competition will be on display.
