BioMedVic are hosting a symposium on genomic medicine at the Royal Children’s Hospital, on Monday 11 May The Right Treatment for the Right Patient at the Right Time! What’s happening in genomic medicine? Symposium and “Should we sequence every baby’s genome at birth?” Public Forum will provide an overview of what’s happening in Victoria and internationally in Genomic Medicine including its application to disease diagnosis, in personalised medicine and the development of treatment regimens and in public health.

The Symposium will feature a Plenary by Professor Madhuri Hegde (Emory Genetics) and presentations from local leaders in the field, Prof Kathryn North, Prof Ingrid Scheffer, Prof David Bowtell, Prof Andrew Sinclair and Prof Deborah Schofield.  The scientific program will be capped off by a Public Forum “Should we sequence every baby’s genome at birth?” moderated by moderated by Walkley award winning journalist and broadcaster Paul Barclay, and recorded for Big Ideas, with panellists Prof Ingrid Winship, clinical geneticist, Liat Harrower, consumer advocate, and A/Prof David Amor, paediatric clinical geneticist and Dr Ainsley Newson, Ethicist.
