Subject: [ASC-list] Jobs in Kenya at icipe
There are a couple of great jobs going with my organisation here in Kenya, icipe, the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology. We’re growing quickly, so this is an exciting time for us.
These aren’t the official job descriptions - I’ve editorialised a bit (a lot)! I’m not speaking on behalf of icipe, but feel free to contact me with any questions and I can put you in touch with my colleagues. Cathy Reade from the Crawford Fund is also a good friend of icipe and could tell you more.
Head of Communications
The job description doesn’t really do the role justice. It’s an opportunity to shape the communication strategy of an international research institute. There hasn’t been a true head of comms for over a decade. At the moment, it’s just me (journo by training), a designer and a technical writer, so we would be building something from scratch together. I’ve spent the past six months getting the basics in order (mailing lists, new website, etc), so now it’s time for someone to come in and get us moving.
You would report directly to the head of the institute, and have the opportunity to make a significant impact with our communications to donors, farmers, medical workers and governments in Kenya and around the world. Our director recognises the importance of communications and is willing to offer a good package to a really experienced person with a good track record. She also loves Australians.
Resource Mobilisation Coordinator
This is more of a research management role, but there are significant external and internal communication aspects to it. You’d be helping us to build strong relationships with our donors, and connecting our researchers to funding and partnership opportunities.
Also, for all the researchers in your life, we’re also looking for a Head of Human and Animal Health and various other research positions. Details of these are at http://www.icipe.org/index.php/jobs.html
