Melbourne musician and science teacher Charlie Marshall presents:
'SUBLIME - songs of science, metaphysics & ecology' Nov 7th @ The Flying Saucer Club

An exploration of the wonders of the universe through songs, science and vision

Sat Nov 7th, 8pm. The Flying Saucer Club, 4 St Georges Rd, Elsternwick.

Melbourne singer, songwriter and science teacher Charlie Marshall presents a unique personal vision, 'Sublime - songs of Science, Metaphysics and Ecology', a musical, visual and spoken word exploration of the world of science and 'The Sublime' - the universe in all it's wonder and mystery. With his new band, The Curious Minds, Charlie will boldly go where few musicians have gone before - taking inspiring scientific concepts and fusing them with music, poetry and vision. Digital artists Thomas Ingram and Maize Wallin will connect the live performance to interactive music visualisers to produce graphics based on the themes of the songs. Themes like our journey from stardust to conciousness, the infinitesimal wonders of the atom, the superorganism of the Gaia Hypothesis, how the 'butterfly effect' brought down an American president, and the unmet challenge of climate change. This show also launches 'Not a Cruel Machine', the new single celebrating the beauty and wonder of the scientific worldview in the context of evolution and atheism.

Accompanying Charlie and crew on this sublime journey will be acclaimed Melbourne poets Alicia Sometimes and Sean M. Whelan reading their mesmerising, science themed pieces, and physicist and 3CR science presenter Chris Lassig using the platform of The Flying Saucer Club to provide expert insight into the possibilities of extraterrestrial life.

Charlie Marshall has always been one of Australia's most inventive songwriters - starting with much loved cult band Harem Scarem, followed by Charlie Marshall & The Body Electric which featured members of such legendary outfits as The Dirty Three, Beasts Of Bourbon and The Avalanches. Now with his new works integrating science, philosophy and politics he may have created a new musical genre - poetic, scientific, political rock - and a new type of show for Melbourne punters. For this special event Charlie will perform these new songs with his band The Curious Minds: Clare Moore - Drums, Bryan Colechin - Bass, Tim Deane - Keyboards and Andrew Watson - Violin.

All tickets include a full colour 20 page Progam booklet with song lyrics, themes and images. First 100 pre-sale tickets also receive a free download of the new single 'Not a Cruel Machine'. Reserved Seats - $25 + b/f, GA - $18 + b/f, Door (GA) - $20

They have a new single out to accompany the event. It's a challenge to the notion that the cold rationalism of science sucks the soul and wonder from our world view.
