Dear ASC-List,

Today's member guest is the Director of Australia's only publicly
accessible medical pathology museum, the Museum of Human Disease. As a
young person visiting the Western Australian Museum Derek fell in love with
collections and the stories that only objects can harbour. Ever since that
time he has been trying to tell real stories to touch peoples lives. Derek
believes museums should, can and do change lives through provocation and
revelation. In the past three years at the Museum of Human Disease Derek
has seen the effective audience more than double by creating new digital
content, improving marketing style and creating stronger links with
stakeholder networks whilst improving the budget position of the museum by
returning significant surpluses year on year. Derek has worked in museums,
schools and theatres with a variety of stakeholders. Originally an
educator, his performance experience led him to program development for
