As part of this year’s Sydney Science Festival <https://sydneyscience.com.au/>, the Garvan Institute of Medical Research is hosting Genome Gazing, an evening of exploration into the science and art of human DNA. Genome Gazing will take place on Thursday August 11, from 6pm. The event is free, but registration is essential <https://www.giving.garvan.org.au/sydneysciencefestival_genomegazing>.

At Genome Gazing, you’ll hear from three of Garvan’s leading researchers:

Dr Marcel Dinger, head of Garvan’s Kinghorn Centre for Clinical Genomics, will examine possible visions of the future based on what we know – and what we know we don’t know – about the human genome;
Professor Chris Goodnow, Garvan’s Deputy Director, will explore the impact of genomic science on medical research and personalised patient care through connecting disciplines and removing roadblocks in medical research;
Dr Kate Patterson, an expert in biomedical visualisation, will take you on a visual journey to witness the molecular masterpiece of the genome and to see how scientific data can be transformed by blending storytelling with art and cinematography.
A highlight of the event will be the creation of #MyBase – a virtual-reality community artwork featuring input from audience members.

Dr Patterson says, “I can’t wait to see what people come up with for the community artwork I’m designing. I’ve already built the 3D DNA template, it’s just waiting to be decorated with the words and sketches submitted at the event.”

Your DNA carries your code, now you can contribute to ours. Come along and be part of the #MyBase and Genome Gazing.

Genome Gazing is supported by Inspiring Australia <http://inspiringaustralia.net.au/>. The Sydney Science Festival is part of National Science Week <http://www.scienceweek.net.au/>.
