[ASC-list] What are Australia's top ten science institutes

Intriguing question/s.

Reminds me of Bianca's post last year seeking the largest private employers
of scientists in Australia:

http://lists.asc.asn.au/pipermail/asc-list/2015-April/008176.html

She may have unearthed some interesting facts during that exercise.

Unfortunately I can't answer your questions, but first thoughts about
different possible 'categories' for measuring such a thing include:

   - largest private employers (CSL?)
   - largest public employers (CSIRO?)
   - most successful commercialisation of research (NICTA? Cochlear?)
   - most evidence of top impact factor publications (???)
   - most popular scientific 'brand' (???)

If we had a current infographic for the Australian scientific landscape
(perhaps something like this:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/auscicomm/permalink/10153813235398732/) we
might be better equipped to reply.

Who has the most comprehensive mental map of science in Australia? Please
share it!
Looking forward to your results.

Cheers,

Kali
