Hi ASCers,
This one came across the desk this week and I can't help but notice
similarities with what a number of our members are doing in science
communication:
*"Knowledge mobilization supports the flow of information and knowledge
among individuals, groups, and sectors. This course provides an overview of
the theories and practices involved in the creation, sharing and uptake of
evidence. You will learn why and how to enhance awareness of and
accessibility to relevant evidence. You will explore the processes of
knowledge creation, synthesis, translation, and dissemination, and learn to
use different techniques and products to share evidence."*
Do we have any members trained in "Knowledge Mobilisation" (or
'Mobilization' depending on your location)?
Have you encountered this field in your science communication work?
Cheers,
Kali

Course 1
* Inform: Processes of knowledge translation and dissemination*
Offered Online - Jan.23 - Mar.17, 2017
Knowledge mobilization supports the flow of information and knowledge among
individuals, groups, and sectors. This course provides an overview of the
theories and practices involved in the creation, sharing and uptake of
evidence. You will learn why and how to enhance awareness of and
accessibility to relevant evidence. You will explore the processes of
knowledge creation, synthesis, translation, and dissemination, and learn to
use different techniques and products to share evidence.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon successfully completing this course, you will be able to:
- Describe the processes involved in planning, implementing, and
evaluating KMb strategies
- Assess the quality of evidence from a variety of sources and
disciplines
- Recognize the contexts in which knowledge is created, validated, and
used
- Identify the barriers and enablers to using and sharing evidence in
different contexts and among different target audiences
- Create a KMb plan to inform or raise awareness
- Create strategies to collect, collate and package evidence in a way
that makes it accessible and relevant to users
- Select appropriate tools and techniques to monitor and evaluate the
success of KMb information sharing and awareness-raising efforts

Course 2
*Engage: Building capacity to understand and use relevant evidence*
Offered Online - Sept.18 - Nov. 12, 2017
The creation of productive contexts for knowledge mobilization requires
acting on the factors enhancing or limiting individual, organizational and
societal capacity for using and sharing evidence. This course focuses on
processes and products to support target audiences in engaging with new
evidence. You will learn skills and techniques to help build capacity for
users to identify, make sense of, and apply relevant evidence in their
individual, organizational and societal contexts. You will explore the role
of knowledge brokers in enhancing user literacy and motivation,
facilitating engagement, and increasing understanding and uptake of
evidence.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon successfully completing this course, you will be able to:
- Conduct stakeholder analyses to understand needs of target audiences,
interest in and capacity to engage with the evidence
- Recognize individual, organizational and system-level barriers and
enablers to using and applying evidence
- Create a KMb engagement plan
- Review various convening models (such as workshops and communities of
practice) and facilitation techniques to support engagement with and
dialogue around evidence
- Determine the various roles of KMb partners and practitioners in
enhancing user engagement
- Select appropriate tools and techniques to evaluate the success of KMb
engagement efforts

Course 3
* Act: Transforming knowledge into action*
Offered Online- Jan. 21 - Mar. 18, 2018
The ultimate objective of knowledge mobilization is to support the
transformation of knowledge into action, enabling individual or social
innovation and change. This course focuses on the final stage in the KMb
continuum, where evidence is transformed into decisions and practices at
the system, organization, community and individual level. You will learn
about KMb tools and techniques that facilitate the implementation of
evidence into practice and support target audiences in sustainable change.
Finally, you will be introduced to more complex approaches to knowledge
production and use, including co-creation, which can enhance the uptake of
evidence and favour evidence-informed decisions and practices.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon successfully completing this course, you will be able to:
- Recognize the individual, organizational and system-level barriers to
and enablers of evidence-informed action and change
- Create a KMb action plan to address these barriers and enable
sustainable change
- Apply appropriate products and techniques to facilitate the
transformation of evidence into action
- Select appropriate monitoring and evaluation techniques to assess the
impact of KMb processes, including issues of attribution and sustainability
- Support the generation and implementation of complex KMb strategies,
including program-level and organization-level KMb
- Use tools to support complex models of knowledge production, including
ethics approval, collaboration agreements, and shared decision-making
structures
