Dear Science Communicators in Australia,

There is a briefing next Wednesday in Sydney for journalists and others interested in the World Conference of Science Journalists in Lausanne, Switzerland from 1 to 5 July.

If you haven’t receive an invite directly from the Swiss Consulate and are interested in attending, let me<mailto:sarah at scienceinpublic.com.au> know and I’ll send the invite onto you.

The Australian Science Communicators hosted the 5th World Conference in Melbourne in 2007. It is an amazing event meeting, chatting (and drinking) with science journalists from across the world. I can highly recommend it.

The conference this year is being hosted by the Italian, Swiss and French Science Journalist Associations.

Program, guests speakers and field trips are all online<https://www.wcsj2019.eu/>.

And here’s a snapshot of their promotion:

Fraud. Sexual harassment and bullying in the lab. Preprints. Fake science news. Gene-edited (CRISPR) babies. Ebola. The rise of strongmen and populists. Space exploration. Open access. If it's in the news, it'll be talked about it in Lausanne!

Science journalists from around the world will be gathering in Lausanne, Switzerland in July to discuss the hottest issues in science journalism today.

With 200 speakers and science journalists from the 5 continents, it is a truly global meeting of science journalists, communicators and writers.

Learn about new developments in deep seabed mining, climate adaptation, mental health, the limits of 21st-century physics, indigenous people and meta-analyses.

Meet the world's top scientists such as the directors of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), CERN, Fermilab, the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA), the International Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), and the European Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC).

Learn new skills. Pitch to editors from Science and Nature and more.

Enjoy the area with a choice of 35 field trips all over Switzerland, France, Italy and Germany including the opportunity to go underground at CERN.

  * Need more convincing? Here are 11 reasons<https://mailchi.mp/23b141d5e510/a-message-from-martin-enserink-wcsj2019news-13-22-march-2019> why you should come to the 11th WCSJ2019.
