The bit I forgot: the Fulbright covers almost all her expenses so costs to schools would be low. 

Heather offers a range of activities, from a full 90 minute performance followed by a Q&A session, to a 50 minute performance, and workshops on acting and writing.  And talks.

Heather Massie has a Fulbright grant to come to Australia (from New York), to tour her one-woman show on Hedy Lamarr, a film star of the 1930s and a science inventor.  

The show is hugely entertaining, with an underlying theme of encouraging girls to embark on careers in science. 

She will be in Canberra for the week beginning 26 August, hosted by Australian Science Communicators and the Fulbright Foundation.

Heather Massie is an actor, Fulbright Specialist and New York City artist.

Her week in Canberra provides an opportunity for colleges to book her one-actor play HEDY! The Life & Inventions of Hedy Lamarr.  The show has won rave reviews from around the world.

The play celebrates Hedy Lamarr, Hollywood film actress, and genius inventor, as a woman of science. In the 1930s-50s Hedy was dubbed the most beautiful woman in the world, thus her intellect was often overlooked. Hedy enjoyed inventing in her spare time in Hollywood, and developed technology for torpedoes during WWII to support the Allied Forces. This technology launched today's wireless technology revolution and is used in our cell phones, WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth. 

Heather premiered the show Off Broadway in NYC in 2016 and has toured it through 15 countries, garnering 28 awards and international acclaim. She served as a Fulbright Specialist to South Africa, has been sponsored by US Embassies in Zimbabwe, Sweden, Iceland, and Tunisia, and has featured throughout the US, Canada, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Italy, Finland, Ukraine, Egypt, Algeria, and Zambia.  She performs in theatres, arts festivals, science festivals, science centers, technology conferences, museums, universities, schools, STEM & STEAM events, and cultural and scientific organizations for ages 12-100+.  

The show can be adapted to many formats, specialized versions which work well for school shows, as well as lecture style versions including scenes from the show. One of Heather’s aims is to encourage women to consider careers in science (she studied astrophysics at university). About the Performer:

Heather Massie is a New York City actor, writer, producer, and Fulbright Specialist. She studied Astrophysics at the University of Virginia, with dreams of becoming an astronaut, and then studied Theatre Arts at the Virginia Tech School of the Arts, graduating Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and Phi Kappa Phi. As a professional actress she has performed extensively in NYC and throughout the US. Marrying her loves of art and science, she has toured the world with her show HEDY! The Life & Inventions of Hedy Lamarr garnering 28 awards and international acclaim throughout 15 countries. She brings the show to theatres, arts festivals, science festivals, science centers, technology conferences, museums, universities, schools, Jewish centers, STEM & STEAM Events, and cultural and scientific organizations throughout the United States and around the world.  In 2019 she served as a Fulbright Specialist with a tour of the show through South Africa sponsored by the US State Department, World Learning, and the US Embassy South Africa.
